Hi brionon!

Yes there used to be dog licences which had to be purchased yearly.

In 1987 the dog licence in this country was abolished.

Thanks Alfie, I'm reading a book entitled 'Duffy' ,published 1980 ,it mentions Dog licences. Hence the question. Again thanks. B.
the last dog licences cost 7shillings and sixpence - 37.5 pence
And they were useless and couldn't be policed.

Police dogs were exempt from dog licences!! K x
They were the same price as a marriage licence
They were abolished in England but are still required in Ireland -

Dog Licenses
In general everybody who owns a dog must have a dog licence.

License Fees
Basic Licence 5.00
Concessionary Licence 2.50
Block Licence 12.50

A block licence is available for anyone with 3 or more unsterilised bitches used for breeding or 3 or more dogs registered with the kennel club.

A reminder is sent out every year for your dog licence. It is an offence to keep a dog without a licence and a fixed penalty notice of 25.00 may be issued to anyone not in possession of a current licence. Non payment of fixed penalties may result in a fine of up to 200.00.
