Dog behaviour question 1
When we bath/shower our 2 beagles, the older one (5yrs old) spends ages afterwards licking the water off the younger (2yrs old) ones fur - why ? I vaguely remember from Uni that some animals groom as a submissive gesture rather than social bonding as in primates, and as I can't remember any reference to canine social grooming, I wondered if anybody knows what the significance is.
Generally speaking the younger one (Duncan) is slightly more boisterous and aggressive one, whereas Matthew (!) is calm and collected, but always wins play fights. Not sure if that makes any sense ?
