Just a quickie before I head out for work.
After receiving our Virging media bill yesterday we are looking to change provider for TV, Phone and Broadband.
We are looking into Bt Vision any good or bad points? Worth the money? We would get all the telly packages except for sport ones (hate sport!) just to give you an idea of our telly usage. We currently have all the TV channels except Sky Movies etc. is there a big differenc with what BT provide? Would it be like dropping down a package with what channels you get?
Any comments most welcome!
Thanx :o)
Can't comment about BT, but you can cut costs with Virgin simply by not having a landline.
I use Skype. My phones look like ordinary phones, behave like ordinary phones, I have an 'ordinary' phone number that people can call me on at ordinary rates, they work independently of my computers and save me at least 11 on land line rental alone.
And I've just noticed the tv comes through the aerial on BT vision - as my digital reception is rubbish, even with a top end aerial and signal booster - it wouldn't be for me.
the basic bt vision provide freeview ... a hdd recorder plus an on demand option through your dsl.
you buy films, progs, tunes etc (or at least a lease to access them for a set period (few days) )
additionally you get access to all the bbci progs and can buy more4.
but you can buy packages to include the above
you get a home hub ... with free calls after 6pm and weekends
and can include an internet anywhere mobile phone which will access your home hub, openzone and fon to give you the same facilities you have at home ... on the road
as well as the standard mobile phone stuff
you also get support from a provider who ... while by no means could be regarded as good ... is certainly nowhere near as bad as much of the competition.
Thank you very much for your replies! I have since received another e-mail from Bt saying that there is no existing line for this house so we would have to pay 124.99 to have a line installed! Doesn't explain how come there is a BT phone socket on the wall and a telephone line running from the house which both were here when we moved here 8 years ago! Guess they don;t want our custom! lol
Thank you again for your input tho, it was much appreciated and I am goin to check out Skype Ethel, thanx for the heads up :o)
Don't know if you've tried telling Virgin you want to quit and go to Talk Talk or Sky (or any other) - there is every chance you will get either a discount or a free upgrade.
If you haven't tried it - do your homework first. Know exactly what you are talking about when you telephone them, so you can say 'If I go to X I will get a, b, and c for y amount and that is better because......'
Then, as I understand it, he would still have to get BT to connect the phone, and from that be tied to them for a year, as I am pretty sure only BT actually INSTALL - all the others are simply call packages on existing bt lines/
Dunno what you watch, but freeview is pretty good really, and you can get twin tuner PVR's so cheap now. Maybe that and a basic phone from Virgin might do you.
Already thought of that lol we are going to scout around and then ring Virgin and tell them we are thinking of leaveing them for so and so package deal (with not a mention of the connection fee we would have to pay) and just see what they say ;o)
Hi Postdog :o)
Yeah thats the reason we are kind of stuck with having Virgin although I am a bit stumped as to why they are saying there has never been a BT line here when there is a BT box and a line running to our house from up the road!? Going to send another e-mail with this info for them to see what they say.
Ps. I love all my channels too much to be left with all that freeview has to offer :o)
