I have just discovered that my partner has been an alcohlic for over 20 years...how do i help him to have the courage to stop drinking before it kills him...

The addict has to ask for help and realise they need the help. They have to want to do it for themselves.

If you push him into it, he will resent you trying to meddle. Let him do the fighting hun, believe me I have been on both ends of the spectrum here!
