C -section or not?

When I had my first child my placenta had to be surgically removed as it didn't come out naturally. I have since heard rumours that when having a baby again I would need to have a c-section. Does anyone know if that is true? Also, is it worse to have a c-section then it is to go through labour?

No idea if it is true,

I had a section both times, but had a long labour with the first and a planned section the second time. Can't totally compare, because I never got the pushing and therefore didn't have any of the complications and tears etc (just a big scar!)

However, I was certainly a lot less tired and lost a lot less blood the second time.

With the planned section, I went in to hospital at 7.30 on the Wednesday morning, and was back on the ward with me new baby by 9.30 - then out of hospital on Friday afternoon.

I didn't have any complications as a result of the section either time, so it was a relatively positive experience for me - as surgery goes.

For me, a planned section wins, compared to a long labour and a emergency section, how that compares to an ordinary birth though, i am afraid I can't tell.

I also don't know if that is true, but as for C section, my wife has gone through labour and had C section and she said that was great, no struggling and no pain. she would go for that every time.

Hi tigwig,

I had a n emergency C-section (due to pre-eclampsia) on 1st and I was asked to have another C-section on 2nd, but I choose to try for a natural birth. But as I had more complications with my placenta, it ended up being an emergency section again!

My advice is if you have had complications ask you r consultant what they would advise as you don't want the stress of an emergency like I had! If it's planned then you will know what you are in for and will be prepared!

I know how you feel as I toyed with this myself and now wish I had opted for a planned section to avoid all the drama I had!

its not always the case that having one section means you will need to have another, every pregnancy is different and your consultant will advise on what will be safest for you, if they think everything will be ok there is no reason why you cant give birth naturally. i have never had a section nor do i ever want to unless absolutely neccessary!! having seen a section being done i really couldnt do it through choice but that is personal preference.

now regarding natural birth, yes it really hurts but it is so worth it, my daughter was jsut over 8lbs and i had an epidural and anything else they woud give me, i didnt feel the contractions but it really slowed things down and they had to use suction in the end to pull her out which resulted in 3 stitches down below, but when i went into labour with my son its was so fast i didnt have time for pain relief ( im a complete wimp who faints gettin bloods done) and had to have him completely naturally, it was an easier birth than the first time round and he weighed in at 10lb 10ozs, i felt great and would have been home that afternoon had i not decided to breast feed for the first time.

giving birth is meant to hurt but if you have to have a section its for safety reasons.
