ears, vertigo

Hi
my sister in law has suffered from vertigo for years now. Lately she has been to hospital for some tests and this morning has received a letter saying that she has 'left sided canal parecis of 100%'. Does this mean anything to anyone?!
We dont have a clue what that means. I have been trying to find a website that could answer, so if anyone knows of a website that would be helpful too. Thankyou

Should the word be paresis? If so, google still won't be very helpful as it is all gobbledegook to the layman.

She needs to telephone her GP or consultant for an explanation.

Canal paresis is where the semicircular canals in the inner ear fail to respond to caloric tests - i.e. they are effectively paralysed.

It may result from acoustic neuroma.

Did she have the caloric tests (water in her ears and reaction measured?).

It could be she did not react to the tests in the way that was expected (ie a bad response) so it indicates that there may be a problem causing the ears to react in this way.

I used to have a lot of these tests for meniere's which causes my vertigo.
