Further to the question from USOldWet of 01/07/04, I too was read a short story concerning a village cricket match when I was at school.  Apart from the fact that I thought it to be very funny, all I can remember is the fact that the wicket was located on the top of a mound and the first sight the batsman has of the bowler is his bowling arm about to release the ball!  Does anyone else remember this story, its title and author?

It's a chapter in a novel, England, their England by A G McDonnell. The cricket story is based on the real-life experiences of hthe author playing for a literary cricket team. The whole book is quite funny (if a little dated) but the cricket chapter is the highlight.
Aaah, you got there before me, maxi!
