Hi

I am using Outlook Express for Emails.

When I click on INBOX the subject lines of the Mails are highlighted in Bold type. This allows me to decide whether to OPEN or DELETE.

However, as soon as I click on them - either LEFT or RIGHT on the mouse . . .they instantly open up.

How can I delete them without opening them.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Do you mean they open in the lower pane, or open completely?
It sounds like you have your mouse set to open a file with a single left click - change the mouse settings in Control Panel to open files with a double left click.

hi fern57

To clarify . . .when I see new emails in the top pane, they are highlighted in black because they have not been viewed.

Sometimes I can decide not to open these mails and I wish to delete them. So I have tried Right clicking to then delete them - but they open up in the lower pane exactly the same as if I had chosen to open them.

Confusing - but hope you follow my explanation.

Thanks for your reply . . .

Hi DSG

Thanks for your Mouse suggestion. However, I have gone to Control Panel/Mouse and cannot find he facility to change from single to double clicking. There are other options but not the clicking option. Thanks for your response to my query

In ControlPanel/Mouse, it should be under the Buttons Tab - Files & Folders.

Good Luck

Fern57 has the right idea.  You need to close the Preview pane at the bottom of the screen. On the menu bar at the top, go to View > Layout... and deselect the Show Preview Pane checkbox.

DSG - Thanks again

Under Buttons tab there is no facility to change from SINGLE click to DOUBLE click.

I am working Windows ME . . .perhaps you have a different system.

But thanks for trying.

Hi Elfin

Many thanks for your contribution to this forum.

I have gone to View > Layout. The window is divided into two sections. The lower section gives the option relating to Pane View . .but everything is shaded and I am unable to deselect.

Thanks for your help

Cheers

I know exactly what you mean.  But you can't deselect the preview pane options?  I don't like the sound of that.  Anyone else have an idea?  I'll work on it though, ok?

ok, I have replicated your problem.  I have a question now.  What is highlighted (on the left) when you try to deselect the pane view?  If it's 'Outlook Express' then you get the preview pane options greyed out.  Click on 'Inbox', then View - Layout.  Did this fix it?
