Does anyone know where I can find the english into egyptian translations for the exercises in Gardiners Egyptian Grammar? thanks

Erm is this Egyptian Arabic or hieroglyphic sorry to be think - my answer will differ as to which.

Go to Google and enter "English/Eygyptian Hieroglyphic Translation" and you will find a number of items to select from. However, I know Gardiner and the problem with Gardiner is that it presents information but makes little attempt to teach it. Data is shown context-free, with no awareness of the common errors likely to be made by students. It is a brilliant piece of work, and it is possible to learn to read hieroglyphs from it, but whilst it is a fabulous reference work, it is not a teaching book. So, if you are a beginner, I would recommend that you read through an easier book first, such as Collier and Manley's "How To Read Egyptian Hieroglyphs".

There is a reader in Egyptology in the Univ of London - SOAS I think. I was going to suggest writing to him for a key.

I neva got past smndf - the other thing is that the uni of London used to do evening classes in Hieroglyphic. Not much good if you're out of town.

you know that the 1890-1900 Baedekker guides have very exact translations of most of the hieroglyphs that you see as you wander up and down the Nile?

What I'm looking for are the picture files which show the translations of the english sentences in the exercises at the end of each lesson. I've found a site that has the first 9, but all of the sites that claim to have exercise 9+ no longer exist.
