I Googled this and about.com suggest that like Marie Antionette and Queen Elizabeth 1st, rumours about her sex life were rife. Because Catherine had a huge sexual appetite the rumours had to be bizarre.

I suppose their sex lives were famous as was Charles II's. But a horse???!!! That was very bizarre.

Women who displayed independence from men were vilified in every possible way, and making up stories about their sex lives was part of this.
Thankfully, this no longer happens.......hmmm.
