As far as I'm aware it is. I can't think of any reason why it wouldn't be allowed. People legally drink in hired Limos on a night out.

In the USA (or, at least, in some states of the USA) it's illegal to drive a vehicle with an open container of alcohol in it, irrespective of who (if anyone) is drinking it.

However there's no equivalent legislation in the UK.

yep perfectly legal in the UK.

However if the police spot it I would guarantee the driver will get stopped and they will be asked to blow into a little tube.

Many coach Firms have noticies on there busses saying that it is Illegal for alcohol to be consumed on board.
Whether this is enforcable by law im not so sure but down to the descretion of the company and the Driver to enforce there Law/Rules.

i am a coach driver and we are informed that it is against the law for anyone to consume alcohol whilst the coach is moving. as far as i am aware it is the same law for passengers in a car.

There is no national law to this effect relating to cars.

The Licensing Laws, concerning the sale and supply of alcohol could apply to operators of buses , coaches and stretch limousines but there is no national law , that I can find ,saying that a passenger on a bus or coach cannot drink alcohol when the vehicle is moving. It is possible that local authorities have such a rule. Milton Keynes, in February this year, drew up rules for stretch limousines including one barring the consumption of alcohol unless the vehicle was parked.

The car driver could be at risk of prosecution for failing to keep proper control of the car if they permitted the boozing passengers to interfere with that and its possible that both driver and passengers could be held responsible for causing any accident, both at civil and criminal law.
