It first appeared as the opening song in 'The Threepenny Opera' by Kurt Weill (German original) in 1928. Louis Armstrong took it into the 'hit parade' of 1954. Bobby Darin's version became a hit in 1959, Frank Sinatra called it "the definitive version."
