For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.The gas in the drink is in solution and will be released when there is what is called a nucleation point ipresent - a small sharp edge or point on which a bubble can form - ice will have lots of them, so the gas will be released quickly. To see the effect even more dramatically, add something like a spoonful of sand to the drink - this has even more nucleation points and will cause it to fizz quite violently, probably overflowing the glass, so do it in the sink
