Which is the best hotel to stay in in Las Vegas (money no object)? Somewhere not too tacky, but that still has all the glitz and action.

Depends what you want - a lot are similar in terms of room quality once you get past the glitz and/or tackiness on the casinos and external trimmings.

Classiest would probably be the Bellagio with its fountain displays, followed by Ceasars Palace, MGM Grand and the Mirage.

Tackiest would give you a bigger list including Excalibur, New York New York, Luxor, Treasure Island and Paris.

I've stayed at MGM and Excalibur and found rooms to be similar despite major external differences. Next trip I'm planning for the Bellagio.

Corganiser is right - it depends what you want from your trip - i stayed in the luxor when i went and LOVED it! Five swimming pools, gorgeous room, great restaurants and fantastic reception and staff. Everywhere in Vegas is done in an over-the-top and extreme manner, and while Bellagio and Venetian and definitely a bit classier i still think Caesars and MGM are a bit tacky! It's a brilliant place, Caesers is the most central hotel, right in the middle of the strip whereas the Venetian and Luxor are at opposite ends. The strip is massive, don't attempt to walk it even though it looks like you can, i made the mistake becuase the buildings are all so huge! Tacky isn't really the word i'd use as well, kitsch maybe, because vegas is like a dream place - it's really surreal, but BRILLIANT fun! I had the best time, it was easily the best holiday i've ever been on, if you're looking for glitz and action i'd recommend caesars - the position and sheer magnitude of the hotel is awesome, and the pools looked ace when i saw them - have a great time, am SO jealous!

Actually, the most glamorous hotel on the Strip is the Four Seasons which is on the top levels of the Mandalay Bay (itself a pretty classy joint).  My wife and I have stayed at both Bellagio and The Venetian in the last year.

Caeser's Palace remains dated (even with the recent remodelling).  The Venetian is amazing - suites only - but not really worth the money.  Already up to two towers they will be the World's largest hotel when the third tower opens next year.

Bellagio has to be it - it really is the most amazing hotel.  Book a Fountain View room though otherwise it is not worth it.
