Slow Cooker

I have just bought a slow cooker and the manual is poo.  So I have a question if anyone can help.

I am cooking chicken I dont want a stew or anything just chicken pieces with rice.  I have put the rice in water as it says but it doesnt mention about putting water with the chicken?  Can I just cook meat and chicken on their own or do you have to put water in with it.

Not sure of quantities (Depends on size of chicken pieces and slow cooker, although you don't cover the chicken) but you definately need water in there to cook the chicken.  Use chicken or vegetable stock though instead of water.

i use my slow cooker regularly and often cook joints of meat, chicken, beef, pork. i never put anything in with the joint as the slow cooker produces steam and the meat absorbs that. my meat is always very succulent and tasty

How does it produce steam if you put no liquid in it?
