What do you call a male midwife?

If such a think exists. My boyfriend reckons it's still a midwife. I suspect it's a Birth Management Consultant or something similarly jumped up (and on double the wages!).

It's a midwife (they have them on Holby City). And by the way, what does your name mean?

Thanks 5029! Boognish is the demon god of the band Ween. 76 is because there are 75 other people registered with the name boognish on Yahoo mail before me. I know - the nerve!
The word midwife is one of the oldest surving words in the English language, and simply means "one who is with the woman", so can obviously apply equally to either a man or woman.
Apparently, when I was born my mum was looked after by (one of?) the first male midwife. I'm thirty soon, so they've been around for a while.
