Letters: what's the wierdest, oddest or most ofensive you've received?

When I was a kid, I remember my dad receiving a large, oficial looking envelope from Canada. It contained the last will and testament of one of his uncles who had emigrated years before. The will was quite involved and went on and on. There was also a letter from a lawyer which said that under the details of the enclosed will, my dads' entitlement was........Nothing! The DSS take the biscuit for me re. offensive letters. One week after my mother-in-law died, a letter arrived at her address from the DSS which said that Housing Benefit would no longer be paid to you by reason of your death. If you work in the DSS, then without hesitation I would call you a to$$er, because that is my experience of dealing with the DSS.

2 letter from the Spanish Lottery telling me I'd won hundreds and thousands of Euros.

Sent them both to Watchdog.

I don't think I have ever received anything personally. However, when I used to work for a living(?!) a life tenant would regularly send us abusive letters. Generally they were written on loo roll or cardboard or empty tights packets in felt tip. They would normally start "bum sh!t sods". I had 7 or 8 files of these missives which were hilarious (although very sad). Despite intervention from the Postmaster General, they only stopped when we moved premises and we "forgot" to tell her!!!!

just for the record, the DSS (or DWP as they've been known for many years) don't pay Housing Benefit. I think you want to wage your war against ALL the Local Authority staff in the country.

I'm sure they'll be equally flattered.

I am, and whilst it was never my intended "career" choice I feel a tad offended at such a sweeping statement. I appreciate that some staff are rubbish but sadly, you get that almost everywhere. and yes, a computer generated letter that 10CS has described is unacceptable, it was obviously a mistake. I feel sure that someone was reprimanded.

however, if I got such a letter regarding my ex-mother-in-law I could live with it :o)

I received a Christmas Card last year from an ex-friend who has *ahem* slight problems..... The card accompanied a book I had lent her as well as some horse manure in a little box... The card contained some seriously offensive wording, which I won't repeat here. Basically she was annoyed at me for (gently) suggesting it might be better if she could ring me before 10pm, not around 5am in the morning as I was likely to be asleep, unless it was an emergency..... Yep, *ex-friend*.... and one who was hoping to become ordained !!

Ahhh - just thought of one. I came home one night to find a note through my letter box saying

sort you f......ing alarm out you f......ing c...., its a bl00dy nuisance and if you don't I'll f....ing sort it out for you. you f....ing W.....r.

Nice. Apparently, according to the control panel, for the first time ever my burglar alarm had gone off at 9.20 (undoubtedly set off by my cats who at that stage were fighting).
Now I have no wish to cause disturbance to my neighbours, and had I not had such an offensive note, I would have delivered a bottle of wine together with a note of apology to them. Just thought that was a bit bang out of order to a woman living on her own. A polite note would have done the trick.

the man next door to me went away for a week, and his wife brought another man home on the first night. I had to listen to their headboard bashing against the adjoining wall til 1.30am.

I put a note through their door saying that I didn't mind if she brought friends home, but could she please move her bed a few inches away from the wall?

I received a letter from the solicitor who (mis)handled my mother's will which began ( the letter, not the will ) "We refer to your telephone conversation with the writer's partner" and got even worse. He wasn't too pleased when I made two copies and returned one to him with his English corrected and forwarded the second to the Plain English Society who then contacted him

i got a parcel address to me with six fresh Manx kippers and a � 20 note in it

no letter with it I still to this day dont know who sent it .

weird or wot.
