Thank you for the hints -- and explanation of pinata.
With a few minor changes everything has finally fallen into place (though did any of you know that a cayuse was a pony ?)
I didn't know that a cayuse is a pony until I found it in Bradford's dictionary.
just couldn't see what to highlight until I checked this thread many thanks to you all
Hi MatydaLover!
Belated congratulations on your recent marriage.

As you say Glamorgan played a part in this week's theme. I suppose there could be (g)nash-ing of teeth by anybody who didn't finally crack it.
Hi everyone

It is great to know that I am not the only one who has been floundering about with this EV. Sorry Novalis, I think you are definately devious enough to be an EV compiler!

Will some kind person point me in the right direction for the "on this day section" for future reference - sadly, I don't get to read all the paper as I get waylaid by the EV!

Unfortunately I will have to leave it unfinished now as those deadlines have sneaked up on me again, but thanks to all for the great clues.

Regards
I found it by searching on "31 August" in Wikipedia.
I thought the right downward diagonal from the F was pretty sneaky!
Oh! I never thought of that..................many thanks Rollo.

Regards
