Is tresemme really bad for you hair, or do hairdressers just tell you that because it's cheap? Does pantene really coat your hair in plastic? And do you really need to spend at least a tenner a bottle to get a decent shampoo and conditioner?

I have really fine hair which gets flyway & then greasy toward the end of the day and have spent loads on all kinds of brands believing the hype that expensive is best. Have used tresemme - it was ok. I now use Elvive Nutrigloss the one with the green band everyday for a few months now and it really does the trick an its cheap. Who knows maybe simple is better?
I use whatever shampoo and conditioner is on offer at the supermarket when I go shopping.
My niece is training to be a hairdresser and she's been told that Tresomme & Pantene are both bad for the hair - they coat your hair with silicone.
Apparently the best one that's commonly available i.e. cheap! is Herbal Essences, although I tend to go with Poohshunny & buy the ones on offer

everyones hair is different, but i used that tressemme and its rubbish!! my hair was knotty and basicall y awful after i used it!!

i have quite thick hair tho, i stuggled to find a decent one, even pantene didnt do much for me, then i discovered............ Loreal Elvive!!! i use the pink one and something the golden one!!

its amazing!!! xx
If you have natural hair, unprocessed by colour/straitening/perming etc then any shampoo will do and no conditioner is necessary. Regular conditioner is helpful to un-knot curly hair.
Different shampoos must work for different people because I tried L'Oreal Elvive, and unlike onlyme26 it was rubbish! I'm using tresseme at the moment, and my hairdresser certainly hasn't commented on it.
The golden Elvive shampoo, followed by Pantene's Ice Shine conditioner works for me, but I think it depends on the structure and condition of your hair in the first place.
I always leave the conditioner on for 2-3 minutes before rinsing off, and don't wash my hair every day. If you do, it tends to take out all the natural oils.
Basically, all shampoos and conditioners are made from the same chemicals, so it's just a case of trial and error until you find the ones that suit.
Years ago I used to have very long hair ..this is back in the sixties .Us girls used to wash our hair with a fourpenny sachet of Sunsilk shampoo rinse it in cold water with vinegar or lemon added and dry it naturally .
There were no conditioners on the market then and we always had shiny hair .All these shampoos and stuff today play havoc with your hair .Well.. that's just my opinion.Believe you me I have tried the lot and that Treseme stuff is awful ,left my hair heavy and greasy . They put so much old rubbish in shampoo these days .
I stick with my old routine these days .Wash in a cheapo shampoo ,( I'm on Superdrug Coconut at the moment ) final rinse in cold water .Don't go down the vinegar route anymore though but use lemon juice every few washes because my hair is coloured .
Thing is we use hairdryers ,straighteners, curling tongs etc and all this marlarkey which play havoc with our hair and dry it out so we need something to put the moisture back Conditioners just coat it and then it's a vicious circle .
An old fashioned remedy to get your hair looking really shiny is an egg ,a tablespoon of honey and two tablespoons of olive oil . Beat it together ,shove it on your bonce .Wrap your head in cling film, leave it for about twenty minutes and then shampoo it out . Result ...shiny happy hair :)

as a hairdresser i can tell you pantene DOES coat your hair, which isnt a major problem, unless youre going for a colour as the colour can be patchy. Head and Shoulders strips the hair of its natural moisture. It has Ajex in it, same as paint stripper, hence the top layer of skin comes off getting rid of your dandruff. Not heard of any probs with tresemme.
I think everyone has to find the right one for your hair. I have tried MANY MANY professional shampoos, and the majority do make a real difference. they contain the right ingredients for the type of hair its meant for, although i say the conditioners make the massive difference. But i think everyone has the right ones for their hair. I have cheap ones i love on my hair like herbal essences and aussie haircare.
