Who decided to celebrate Christmas toward the end of December? Why not mid-February when the shops aren't so busy?

There's still just ovr 3 months to go but shops are already getting Christmas stock out on their shelves!
In a charity shop yesterday where the two assistants behind the counter were talking to each other and one complained "the boss" hadn't let her put out the Christmas card stock they'd just had in!
Its a pagan celebration that the winter is at an end, hence is a few days after the shortest day. Bloody christians hijacked it in the 2nd century

I've heard it was a celebration that the world wasn't dying, but that winter was at an END? I wouldn't tell January, February or March that.
