New contract at work
6 Answers
We have new contracts coming in 1st Oct and were told if we don't sign them, we are not allowed to work there.
I have a new job and have handed in my notice so won't sign contract but my boss says I still have to work my notice. Can I leave anyway?

If an employer decides to change a contract, it has to give you (the employee) notice. It is in essence saying the old contract is finishes on 30th September and a new one starts on 1st October, and I guess that it told you this some weeks ago?
It also appears to be saying that you cannot continue working under the old contract after 30th September (has it said that in writing to you?). Therefore the old contract finishes at that date and you can walk away.
That's the line of argument I would take with the prats.

It would be absurd for you to sign the new contract. The new contract will include a requirement for you to give notice to terminate the contract. If you sign it then you will have to resign again and restart your notice period.
You are currently working under a contract. Your employer is terminating that contract at the end of Sept. So, as buildersmate says, you can leave at the end of Sept.
