How do you cope with a partner's driving?

I hate being driven by anyone really, but especially by my partner! I have to admit, he's never had an accident but he hammers my car and drives too close to the car in front. I've always been a careful driver, wishing to preserve my beloved car. We always use mine because his doesn't have power steering and I'm not strong enough to cope with that. Whenever I ask him to slow down a little, he throws a wobbly. I end up sitting there terrified for the rest of the journey! He observes speed limits etc but his whole demeanor behind the wheel is one of arrogance and bloody mindedness. How can I tame him without causing a scene>

I don't think you can. If the truth be told no driver likes to be a passenger no matter how good or bad the other driver is. My sister for instance is possibly the best driver I know not only having years of accident free motoring but also having recieved instruction when she drove a paramedic car, and on the rare times I travel with her I still find myself thinking she's too close, fast or what ever

The partner.
You can't. Your only option is to refuse to be driven by him.
drive it yourself and let him be the passenger :)
Remove the starter-motor from your car or keep your car low on petrol so he has to buy some. Fill your car up with old clothes (for charity shop) only keep the bags in the car so there's little room/looks a tip and he wont want to drive it.

Do everything to make your car less inviting. Sit behind him when he's driving (safest seat).
Suggest (casually like) that all really good drivers do an advanced driving course ! Either casually mention The Institute of Advanced Motorists or RoSPA (both do such courses) and hint about the savings in insurance costs.... Just about everyone thinks they are a good driver..... lol.

If all else fails, then book YOURSELF on either an IAM or RoSPA course, then buy the video/dvd that goes with the course and settle him down one evening to watch it together... I can guarantee by the end of it, he'll be itching to have a go !

So far, I have persuaded 8 people to do advanced driving courses, just by subtle suggestions... Virtually all my mates have commented on my *smooth* driving skills since then hehe...
Get another boyfriend.

Been away for a few days. Like some of the comments I've come back to! Thanks! I've always fancied trying an advanced driving course so might well do it! I laughed at the charity bag suggestion because my car is often like that anyway!! Will let you know if and when I pass my Advanced Driving Course!!
