read the info on that link, every middle class woman in England in Victorian times was rescued by the puplication of Mrs Beeton's cookbook, which is still recognised as the best of it's kind ever and the origin of the cook book as we know it, but it was more than that, her book of household management helped the middle class woman of the house manage her accounts, servants and household chores
Lots of meat and also puds galore, the diet for middle class was too much for a modern stomach. There was a tv show on this subject, and the amount they ate made me feel ill, and I like food.
