Christ, so that's what people cling to when they talk about English culture. And there was me thinking those tacky souvenir shops in Westminster selling Big Ben key rings and Spitfire tea towels and teddy bears dressed as Beefeaters were just for clueless American tourists.

Thank God for those shops then. God bless them.

What about the Scots, Welsh and Northern Irish?

:(
Pass the sickbag Alice.
Forever the patriot eh! Gromit?

Ethel

I thought it rather refreshing to hear the word ENGLAND once again.
The catchphrase of the Mail on Sunday's greatest ever columnist, AOG.

Aircraft cariiers and riflemen have nothing to do with partriotism AOG, I think you are mistaking it for jingoism.
Actually I've always thought this summed News up quite well sometimes.

Pathetic, pathetic Gromit, and it took you two attempts, neither of which really quite worked.

The first did not make any sense at all.

The second well,

Aircraft cariiers and riflemen have nothing to do with partriotism

The whole video clip oozed of patriotism (Love and devotion to one's country).

I cannot see your point regarding aircraft carriers & riflemen, these were just a couple of clips in the video, presumably to signify the defence and strength capabilities of our beloved nation. Oh! by the way Gromit it was perfectly ok to include a few Spitfires & Lancasters then?

AOG, I think you are mistaking it for jingoism.

No I don't think so.

Jingoism.

From a British music-hall song of 1878: We don't want to fight, yet by jingo! if we do, We've got the ships, we've got the men, and got the money too. This was immediately taken up by those who wanted Britain to go to war with Russia, who were labelled jingoes by the socialist G. J. Holyoake.

Hence jingoism is aggressive militaristic patriotism. According to Socialist G. j. Holyoake. We had people like him around in 1939, thank goodness we ignored them.

Actually I've always thought this summed News up quite well sometimes.

No China Doll, just an ever increasing number of the so called "fairer sex"
While there is some justification for your comment regarding some womens decision to act like men in the most base of ways, I actually was referring more to the lyrics of the song than the video. ;0)
Great, now I look like I'm blabbering away to myself more so than usual. What's happened to AOG?
AOG, has the new Ed zapped you?

Come back, it's not the same same without you!
I don't think they've zapped him completely love as he still has posts in News, maybe he over posted.. Although he usually writes quite a lot so I don't see it. Maybe he got reported, no idea why though.
I have emailed the Ed AOG, demanding that you are reinstated.
maybe he's away being hauled over the coals for demanding instant change, which as we know will not be forthcoming.
It would be under my regime.
Mr Ed's reply

Hi,

He was flagged for overposting.

Ed

I notice the exalted one is reinstated.
You got a reply? Wow! Are you ever honoured!
AOG,

Pass the sick bag, Alice was often used in his excellent Mail on Sunday column by the late, great John Junor.
