I've only just heard of this company and only then cos they sponsor that young formula 1 driver, now they've sent me a letter saying they own my bank, they don;t mess about do they, they should be called the langoliers not sandtander, mind it could be worse, i could actually have had some money in that account, i havn't used it since before it was the bank they've just taken over!!!

It's nice to know they have me on their list anyway lol

It is one of the world's biggest bank, and is certainly the major bank in Spain.

In the UK it owns Abbey, Alliance & Leceister, Bradford & Bingley and Cahoot.

Don't know how you've not been aware of it, dot.

I've been with the B&B since they took over the building society i used to be with about 15 years ago, forgot who they were it's that long ago, but other than on the advert for the racing car toys i hadn't noticed them.

dunno smudge but my letter is about the bradford and bingley, it's from the boss of santander, fancy foreign sounding name he has

well the letter was about 7 paragraphs long and i lost interest after the first two lines.

they must think they are good they call themselves the worlds best bank, is that cos they are the biggest? they seem very confident about it all. Wonder if they do holidays too?

We're with the Abbey, but haven't heard from them, or Santander, regarding the take over - we read it in the paper!

Let's hope our savings are ok with them & Nationwide.

With all these banks going under lately, I'm beginning to think our dosh will be better stuffed under the matress!

Dot, Banco Santander used to own a major proportion of RBS (i think it was about 20%) up until it did the deal with Abbey and they had to sell their shareholding as it was a conflict to have that level of interest in a Bank in the UK while owning another. Their chairman used to sit on RBS's board - thats why there are a good few RBS branches in Spain - they were often staffed by UK branch staff on secondment.

How times change - no-one seems fussed anymore that with all the takeovers and amalgamations, there will essentially just be one big hole to chuck our money into soon.
