Although the tooth now has no nerve, the gums around it do have nerve endings and this why it hurts. The root of the tooth will have been pulled around in your gum to some extent and the gum is likely to be bruised and sore - and you know how pain radiates in your mouth.
If the painkillers don't seem to be having enough effect, then check with your pharmacist if there's anything else you can safely take. If the answer is no, then try to get back to see your dentist asap. Pain is normal, but not good, a surgeon once told me after an op. It causes stress and hinders healing and we should never feel bad about being a little 'babyish' over it.
