have you thought about going on your maternity early??
id say get a sick note off the doctor but you will prob find that your work could actually start your maternity early anyway,
i dont want to start mine early but if i feel ill i would have to, you need to think about your health, when the little bundle of joy comes, you will be even more tired!!
you are entitled as far as i know to take your maternity 11 weeks before the baby is due, so you could actually finish now or in a weeks time,
good luck, take care xxx

Is it a constant pain for you? I worked up until I was nearly 39weeks pregnant, but when I was about six months i began getting incredible backache and I thought I would not make it to the end of the pregnancy but it was just one of those rotten phases :-(
Another thing I did was book random days off towards the end of my pregnancy so it worked out that I would have one day off as annual leave every other week so I could get some rest!
Have you done a risk assessment with your work's HR / personnel dept? you can get back supports for your chair, foot rests, etc. They could also consider that you do a different job elsewhere within the business? I can't imagine all that twisting and scanning will do you any good. I am a secretary and sitting at a desk all day used to leave me with agonising pain in my coccyx that I would have trouble standing up, it felt like my hip / bum would snap.
As for starting your mat leave early, imy work place could start my mat leave early if I went sick with a pregnancy related illness within the four weeks prior to my ECD. Check your maternity docs and see if yours is the same, otherwise you can still go sick and not worry about them starting your mat leave early.

Hiya, I'm also 29 weeks so I sympathise. I'm getting breathless very easily too. About 7 weeks ago I started to have a really bad back too, right at the bottom like a trapping feeling. My midwife referred me to a proper maternity physio at the hospital and she really makes a difference. Ask your midwife to refer you. Your work are obliged to give you time off to see anyone pregnancy related. I'm finishing at 34 weeks, a week earlier than I originally wanted to because I do a great deal of driving and come the afternoon, I'm sooo tired I dont feel like I should be driving. I have a lumbar roll for sitting in the car as recommended by the physio, basically a rolled up towel in the small of my back. I reckon work should be trying to make you as comfortable as they can. Ask your manager/supervisor.

Also...I've just thought.
I've just found out that any holiday I have due to me while I'm on maternity, I'm entitled to tag it onto the beginning of my maternity! Because I had 4 weeks left, I've ended up moving my official mat' start date back 3 weeks and so I can finish a week early. See if theres any loophole like that in your works policy because you could take a few weeks holiday joined onto the start of your leave. Does that all make sense??! Ring up the company HR dept directly. They should help you with that info.
