I was really looking forward to seeing the spectacle of the Avocets taking flight, but as Bill said work in the harbour may have spooked them, but they will return, that's for sure. Can't wait!
He was also spot on about the Sika not being popular. They might look sweet but some of them are nasty little critters - and to be avoided if possible. Just too many of them......

Hijack alert!
A fellow Dorset-ite are you Cetti? Greetings.
A bit of a twitcher/dude/birder with a name like Cetti are you also?
Re: springwatch, the deer talk has got me thinking I might go out this weekend and see if I can find some deer in action. Thought Arne for the sika or Bolderwood perhaps for Fallow. Any thoughts?

I am pleased to see it's back - Kate seems to have gained in confidence so Bill is not so 'in your face'. Anyway Simon King is always watchable!
Bolderwood should be good Avatar but there are always a lot of people on the main paths. Still the Forest should be looking at its best now with all the colours

We have been charged about 3 times in the last couple of years and that was June, not in the rutting season, so you will appreciate what they are like now! It's not the fault of the deer, there are just too many of them in too small an area.
Some birders go armed with their scopes for protection and have had to use them in some cases, so a stick would be a reasonable deterrent if you decide to go. You may be lucky and not be bothered by them, I do hope so.
