............. can someone tell me which side it's meant to be on? I have been looking at presenters wearing them on Tv and seems the BBC has then on the left but ITV on the right .... but which is correct and why?
This point was raised by presenters on BBC TV news after emails from viewers. Traditionally males wore them on the left (because of the buttonhole, as Dzug says), while females wore them on the right. But the outcome was that these days anyone can wear them on either side.
It has been checked with the Royal British Legion and it really doesn't matter which side the poppy is worn. If the poppy has one of those leafy things on it though, the correct placement for the leaf is at 11 o'clock. (11th hour 11th day etc) But at the end of it all the only thing that does matter is that we buy a poppy and wear it with pride to support all of our hereos, past and present.
