Sony vaio laptop, vista, and viewing pictures.

OK this is silly but....
got a laptop a few weeks ago, my first one, and it runs Vista. Now, as you do, you have a play before you know what you are doing, and I opened some pics which opened in a completely new way for me.
Hard to describe, but it was like a central screen showing previews of all photos, all next to each other. The mouse over a pic highlighted the pic, it got a bit bigger, and clicking opened it. By moving cursor left or right I was able to scroll through all pics.
Now though, they open as they did on my (XP)desktop and I can't seem to get back to the other way - which I liked. Is this a vista or vaio thing, and anyone know how to get it back?
