The strange cats owners may put the cat out at night (thinking its the right thing to do but its not) and the cat may be cold, hence coming into yours. I suggest you lock your cat flap overnight, I doubt your cat wants to go out when its freezing at night. in any case. This way the strange cat will learn that your house is not an open house and will move on. I suspect the wailing is to warn your cat that he is coming in or is around as he doesn't want confrontation, merely the warmth of your home!
I must be really soft then, as my first thought on reading this was "awww, the poor thing". And i'd be daft enough to not only let it keep on coming in but i'd put extra food and water rations down for it too!
Id do that as well boo, hence the reason I have 4 cats.....lol
We are all soft! I have a visiting cat that does this every night, it wails to warn he is in the house then goes to the guest bedroom to sleep all night. i was merely suggesting a way that Candy cat could stop it if she wanted to, I would do my first suggestion if my cats weren't ok about the imposter spending nights with us.
Where do you live?! That sounds like something my cat would do! He wears a magnetic collar so he can access his own catflap but we don't lock him out at night he comes and goes as he pleases. I say this because he has been found in neighbour's houses before and whenever he comes in from being outside to our house the first thing he does is wail up the stairs to us!
