Nappy Rash, really sore....
My 14month old has had a nappy rash for a couple of days now, it's really red and feels warm to the touch and he stiffens his legs and whimpers everytime i go near his bottom, it's upsetting to see him like that and have done all i can to aleviatte his distress, gentle bathing, Sudacrem, leaving nappy off, but i don't think it's getting better. I read on the Canestan website that you can use this for nappy rash! Have any of you tried this? Is it safe to use on him?
Thank you

As for further prevention this site appears to give good advice:

Hope your little one gets sorted out soon.
Hi there, I've had this problem before as well. my little boy's at 12 months was REALLY bad, it was red and completely peeled off.
My GP gave me Conotrane which worked WONDERs, it was even soothing for him each time we applied it on his bum. The GP said most others like Timodine (not sure about Canesteen) were too strong at that advanced stage of the nappy rash. Conotrane is very mild and acts as a lovely shield from urine and poo from the baby's bum which can cause nappy rash too. Do make sure you change his nappies often, esp. change ASAP when he does a poo.
We had been using Timodine for him which made it really worse, but didn't know. An emergency GP had prescried it for us!! Hope this helps.
Have you changed his brand of nappies lately? Just a thought. Being an oldie, my son used to wear towelling nappies with a liner and had no problems. I switched him to a well known brand of disposables and he got nappy rash for the first and only time.
Diprobase, available from a pharmacist is amazing. It provides a protective barrier and is soothing. It is very mild and I am sure can be used on babes. Although I would ask a pharmacist. I know it can be used on really bad exzma (spelling!)
Good luck.
my 17 month old is suffering badly at the moment too. It really does look like a burn. It's hard to keep the nappy off though as the teething also brings lots of runny poos with him ( which is why he got the nappy rash in the first place)
I was so upset at holding him down, and he definately screamed more when the cream went on that i thought what I would like on me, if i had it and so i tried a bit of calamine lotion, dabbed on gently. He immediately stopped crying and actually said "more". I'm sure it soothed and two days later, it's almost gone. \Might be worth a try?
I know you guys probably know this, but when teething, try to give baby as much water to drink as you can, to produce dilute urine. As babies tend to lose so much water when they drool during teething, pooh and pee can often become much more concentrated, and this is commonly why nappy rash occurs.
Good luck.
Hi everyone, thanks alot to all of you for your help! I went to boots and got some Metanium in the end, i was advised to clean him at every change with water and dab dry with a towel and then apply the cream. That was Wednesday! It is much better now...This cream worked great, had a strong alcoholic smell though, lol!
Thanks again x
My son was very ill as a baby and permanently on antibiotics. This caused him to get a yeast infection which made his nappy rash so bad it took the skin off his poor little bottom. The doctor perscribed canestan which made his scream when I put it on.
Then someone reccomended a product called Vasegen - it is a silicone barrier cream that contains camomile. It stops and nappy fluid etc., getting to the skin whilst soothing and healing. Within 2 days Richard's bottom was healed and better and I have never looked back.
I now reccomend this product to everyone - find a stockist and get a lot of it and keep it instock - great on chickenpox when they get that later in life as well!!!!
