Why are sissy squats called sissy squats ...

... given how much they hurt !!!

Is it gym irony ("Pumping Irony" ha ha) ?

Where did the term "sissy squat" originate ?

Never heard of them. Are they perhaps also called by another name?

Thanks Mamyalynne.

The Sisyphus explanation makes sense. I'd always thought it must be an ironic name.

I just know ... they hurt like heck and "sissy" seemed like an odd name.

I wonder if they are harder for men, who have more body weight than we do. I guess it's a strength to weight equation. In the pictures, Mamyalynne, there's a guy doing them with his heels on a piece of wood. I can't imagine doing them without holding on to some sort of upright.

Anyway ... thank you for your answer.

Velvetee ... I can't really think of any other name for them.
too painful fer lil 7 stone arthritic me LOL
