when i was a kid i herd this, must have been around 1971. Somthing about Flying saucers have landed, they came from out of the clouds, they came from out of the sun ????

Don't recognise those exact words but sounds like the classic "War of the Worlds" album by Jeff Wayne. Richard Burton did the narration.

I would have to say this sounds like Neil Young's "After the goldrush" a superb tune. You may like to check out the excellent cover by Natalie Merchant.

Further to my previous answer here are the lines that made me think of this track

"Well, I dreamed I saw the silver spaceships flyin'
in the yellow haze of the sun,
there were children cryin' and colours flyin'
all around the chosen ones"

There was a hit cover of the Neil Young song around that time, by a group called Prelude. That might be what you remember.
Wow Jen, what a memory, I remember the prelude version now myself, but I still like Ms. Merchant's better. I just hope Steve lets us know if this is in fact the right track, and also whether he's named after a Video game  :)

My guess -Pink Floyd, Umaguma  (side 2, set the controls for the heart of the sun).  It's got spaceships, the sun, some reference to clouds, would have been played around 1971.
