If there is one thing that annoys me it is women moaning about men leaving the seat up. We need it up, you need it down, deal with it! Blokes don't moan about women leaving it down do they. Before anyone says it is more hygienic etc, if you keep the toilet clean it doesn't make a difference.

ps It is a bit wierd that he does that and I don't care how big he is or what he is built like, you asked the question!

Actually, Gevs, when the toilet is flushed, a large amount of microscopic pieces of the material present in the bowl are sent into the air. Studies show that people who keep their toothbrush near the bog and don't put the seat down before flushing are putting all sorts of lovelies in their gobs.

I used to think exactly like you do and the 'good manners' idea still doesn't wash, but the hygiene arguement does!

Many years ago I had a bad back and couldn't stand properly for weeks, so I took to sitting for a pee. As the view from my bathroom window is very pleasant I've done it ever since! (Not easy in a urinal, however.)

yes but a similar study recently shows the majority of people will flush before putting the seat down anyway. Also if the toilet is regularly cleaned and an active bleach type cleaning aid is used permanently then the difference is not that big to what microscopic germs are in the air already and certainly not enough to cause harm to anyone.

Most women I know that moan about it cite the good manners argument anyway which is just a load of old tosh if you ask me.

Some of you are confusing the seat with the lid. Yes it is hygienic to put the lid down (seat comes down with it too) but just putting the seat down has no hygeinic benefits as the spray during the flush will get out and coat everything. But if you put the lid down the ladies will complain as they then have to bend down and lift the lid.

I read somewhere that Islamic culture recommends that men sit down during urination (be it at the urinal or in the open field). Would not recommend it at the local wall tile in the oub.

My argument has always been for the lid (not just the seat) to be down when the toilet is not in use...

  • it looks neater
  • everyone has to lift something to use it
I read in a medical magazine several yonks ago (so can't guarantee the accuracy of the information) that peeing while sitting doesn't empty the bladder properly, which is why women get cystitis. Men sitting is about as common as women standing, though.
I do
Women are more prone to cystitis than men because the average female urethra is 4cm, while in men it is 25 cm. Therefore bacteria have less distance to travel to infect women than men
I sit down to pee as I have 3 penis piercings and I spray all over the place
Too much info!!!
Well, we have to put both seat & lid down, as nosy kittens have almost been drowned in the past...
Most men my age don't know or can't remember, why they've gone to the loo when they get there. they sit down to be on the safe side.

My bf does in the morning or when he's drunk because it's easier...

Incidently, whenever visiting some of his family, we have to put the lid down whenever it's not being used as the kitten has a habit of jumping in it...
