Spinal Problems.
7 Answers
I am male 78 years old and have, following a scan been diagnosed as having no fluid between vertabrae 3 & 4,
It has been suggested I have an operation to correct this.
Since having the scan some 3 months ago the original symptoms of pain in legs and lower back have largely disapeared.
Could this problem correct its self and may an operation now not be needed ?

What I will say is that things can alter dramatically. Sometimes I am in a lot of pain and sometimes I am not. I have spondylitis and in recent years have also had a back fracture.
Personally, I would see an osteopath before you commit yourself to an operation. I have benefited immensely from a good osteopath who works on my back from time to time. So many things can be done to help, including changing your postural habits.
I agree with Squad, if the pain and associated problems have now largely disappeared then I wouldn't even contemplate any risky operations on my spine.

No lofty, not for the friend, but for her husband whos is 80yrs old. We invited him for Xmas dinner as he would be alone, but since then she has gone down hill and I don't think that she will make it to Xmas. As you may have guessed from my many answers on this site, I am not the sort of guy who can give emotional support. I Told my wife on my return from the hospital that if she was in the same situation O would ask them to turn off the ventilator and the dialysis.
Thanks anyway lofty.
