acer aspire 2920 why does it have no volume?

Everything i try to play no sound comes out, i have the volume on the highest and checked the sound file and it said it was stored and working correctly but yet still no sound on anything cd, downloads etc, do i need independant speakers or is there summit wrong with my laptop i've only had it a month but only just used it as i've been waiting to get on-line. thanx in advance x

Have you got anything plugged in to the headphone socket?

Is it on mute? Does the speaker icon in the bottom right hand corner have something that looks like a no entry sign over the top of it?

no its not on mute and it says its working fine but it isn't cos i still get no sound not even email alert sounds etc.

It's possible you do have a faulty laptop, but there are quite a few reasons for sound problems. I would suggest you click 'Start->Help and Support' and enter "Sound Troubleshooter" in the Search box. Click on 'Sound Troubleshooter' in the results box and you will be presented with a series of multiple-choice questions which should help you isolate the problem.

sorry don't know what the solution was, i just kept trying to play songs on i tunes and all of a sudden i had sound, maybe it was just faulty and it will brake down again soon fingers crossed it doesn't. thanx everyone, happy new year.
