Condenser Dryer

to buy or not to buy?

I really need a dryer its costing me �30-�50 a week to dry my family clothes in the launderette. I try to dry as much as i can on the garden clothes line but its so hard to get them dry during the winter. and my radiators are always full of clothes. can anyone recommend a good condenser dryer? not too big as my space is limited!

Go to the sales and buy a washer / dryer for as little as you can find. Even if you pay HP rates, if you are spending that much on launderettes it will pay you to buy the washer dryer type.
We have a cold fill one which plugs into a 13 amp socket. Chuck the stuff in, wash it, spin it, dry it - all you need to do is iron most of the washing.
No massive heat oulet tubes these days the water from the dryer condenses and goes out the usual water outlet pipe
They are in sales for around 250ish.

It's small, cost a heck of lot less than a dryer, does a full load of washing in about 2 hours and it also warms the room you put it in- in my case- my bedroom!

I have a whirlpool condenser dryer, but honestly I never really use it. I do at least 10 loads of laundry a week, and either hang it out, or on the drying rack in the house - i put it at the top of the stairs and it catches all the heat that rises. However, I have to say, that gadget that BOO put the lnk for looks pretty good - at least it is hidden away as well.

How much stuff can you get in there BOO?

Well as we speak annie, it's got a pair of jeans in, two jumpers, little un's party dress and cardigan and one of those peg spider web thingys laden with underwear and socks.

I forgot to mention that as well as obviously drying your clothes and warming the room it's in- I've not ironed a thing since I bought it as you dry stuff on hangers.

All my washing goes in my condenser drier, I love it. Saves on ironing too.

Mine is a Miele, but you can find very good cheaper models, especially now.

I use a Hotpoint tumble dryer (not a condenser type).

I have to say, I've never seen one of those before BOO, but will certainly look into maybe buying one - sounds so cheap to run!

Sorry BOO - so how long would that lot take to dry?

I can get a full load on the rack at the top of the stairs and I can put one lot on the morning and it's dry by tea time and then put another on at night and its dry in the morning - but it really annoys me that its is hanging around all the time.

I had a cheap Candy one from Argos in one flat.

When I moved in with my ex there was this crappy washer dryer and I missed having a separate dryer so much, it drove me mad having to have clothes hanging all over the place, especially towels and bedding as you could only wash or dry and then only dry badly small amounts.

I have a separate dryer in my new flat and am happy again :) It just makes life so much easier and washing quicker and the clothes and towels always come out so much lovelier than air dried.
