MM Links Solutions January 2009 [Week 1]
12 Answers
The first week in the reign of Queen Meg went perfectly (as I predicted). The time has come to reveal that her chosen links based on the theme of Pantomime Season were:
Jack HAMMER
Cow CATCHER
JUMPING Beans
Talk TURKEY
Quite a mixed bag of links relating back to her life in Canada (Cow Catcher) and a nice link to the Christmas period (Talk Turkey)!

(Sorry) However, we had only to wait a few seconds before ex-champion Dinkypuzzled launched a double whammy with JACK HAMMER and JUMPING BEANS to claim FOUR POINTS and be crowned HOT SHOT OF THE WEEK (no messing around with him)!
*** Let trumpets sound and cannon roar ***
*** Let the people cheer and shout Encore ***
Although no one else struck with Jack Hammer, Jumping Beans was a great favourite with Jools, Christiana, evasajo & fordward all making early hits to claim their Two Points. Several people offered Jumping Jack which caused me to pause and consider, but I finally decided to judge as incorrect.
At 09.02, Entrant #13 in the form of ex-champion ulysses100 began to TALK TURKEY for another TWO POINTS and only ex-champion sarumite picked up a point for this same prediction. Apart from lysander & Dustybun claiming to be full of (Jumping) Beans, the only other scorer was the shrewd ex-champion kettledrum as Entrant #30 with COW CATCHER to claim the last TWO POINTS.
She is well known for reading the preamble carefully for clues!
The League Table after this first week is:
FOUR POINTS: Dinkypuzzled
TWO POINTS: Christiana, evsajo, fordward, jools, kettledrum & ulysses100
ONE POINT: Dustybun, lysander & sarumite
Everyone else is equal 11th
I cannot wait to see what Queen Meg has in store for us next week.
Until next weekend, this is crofter signing off.
See you next Saturday: Same time Same place Same setter
Until then: HAPPY LINKING!

Happy New Year to all linkers, and especially to crofter for his expertise. A good start for Queen Meg and let's wait and see what she has in store for us next weekend.
Answerbank has been a saviour for many of us over the past few years, and again it has let me occupy many hours over the last few days to keep me otherwise engaged as I come to terms with the death of my beloved dog, Deefa, who died suddenly on New Year's Eve at the grand age of 15. He will be sadly missed.

Ulysses, so sorry to hear about the loss of your dog .I don't think anyone can understand how terrible it is to loose a pet, especially after 15 years unless they have had a dog themselves. Our little Yorkie, Sam died when he was 13 and my late husband and I were so upset for weeks afterwards.
We said we wouldn't have another but luckily we changed our minds and I have not one but two dogs to keep me company now I am on my own. I am thinking of you and sending you my best wishes. Keep your chin up!!! love Evsajo

Thanks to all of you for taking part and for all your good wishes. Special thanks to Crofter for guiding me through this, believe me, he had his work cut out!!
After the stress of posting the links Aquagility dubbing me "Your Megisty" made me chuckle, I like it!!
Ulysses, I'm so sorry to hear your sad news. As the "mum" of two old dogs my heart goes out to you.
See you all next week.

Ulysses...we had to have our cat of 16 years put to sleep just before Christmas a couple of years ago...and a few months ago...our dear faithful dog of 16 years also a few months ago. They were both rescue animals, so they had long and luxurious lives when they came to us.... But it does hurt...and that's from a Mum who started out saying no pets!!
We have had them all...rabbits, hamsters, guinea pigs, gerbils budgies...the lot!!
We now have a 2 year old labrador...2 tomorrow!...and a rescued kitten....7/8 weeks...and a pain!!!...but as I really do believe..it is better to have loved and lost than never love at all..especially with animals.
Maybe in time you could provide a good home to another needy pet..
Queen Meg...I will be ready for you next week!...please drop into the shrubbery first...for a little chat!!
