Why would something minor affect your JSA - you wouldn't tell the benefits people you didn't look for work last week because you had a cold would you?

Couldn't you just say you were looking for work via the internet?

oh sorry, i meant how many days were you allowed to delay signing...if you were too ill to attend....
you need to inform them, the morning of your signing on appointment, in case u r going to miss it.
You are allowed to have no more than two periods in every twelve months during yir claim. The periods must not be more than fourteen days. If you are sick for a third time in the twelve months, the JSA will end.

You DO NOT need to inform the Jobcentre on the day of signing that you are unwell. You have five working days to give your reasons for failing to sign, whatever the circumstances.

thanks firewatch, i realise that, but how many days are allowed for a delay in signing before they class you as 'too sick' and try to put you on sickness/incapacity benefit??

Just to clarify "periods," meant periods of sickness. If you are sick for more than fourteen days, the JSA claim would end and you would have to claim Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) (which you'd also claim the third time you were sick in twelve months.)
Hi Corby, is there no Incapacity benefit now then? My son has a slight curvature of his spine and in cold weather it is debilitating and he is hoping to be able to rest it for a week or two but he thought he would just fill a form in for incapacity after the first week when the sdoc signs him off
Evening dot, from 27 October 2008 Employment and Support Allowance replaced Incapacity Benefit and Income Support paid on incapacity grounds.

If yir son was getting Incapacity Benefit (IB) in the eight weeks before he claims, he'll stay on IB but if not, he'll need to claim the ESA.

He doesn't need to wait til he's been unfit for work for a week to claim, he can self-certify the sickness for the first seven days and get benefit from the fourth day.
