I may have gone off on a tangent AOG but was just pointing out that this used to be common practice,I happen to find it interesting and shocking.
I wasn't making excuses for her BTW ! as you know nothing of her situation then you can't judge or condemn her either.

Well obviously AOG must be an expert in mental health issues and how everybody copes with extreme distress!

I don't thing anybody can comment on why the mother did what she did unless they know the circumstances or the state of her mind (having just given birth) when she did what she did.

Most of us know the difference between wrong and right, but 'none of us' know how we would react in certain circumstances - not even you AOG!
