slow start
1 Answers
Recently changed to broadband. My Dell laptop now takes a long time to get going and does some weird things before it does. Like freezing and going back to the desktop. Once it gets going it is very fast but it is annoying me with the slow start. McAfee keeps telling me my computer is protected . Any ideas welcomed.

first you may just have too much crap loading at startup which, to cure this click start then run and type in msconfig and hit enter. then click on the startup tab and you can see a list of programs that are running at startup, you can take the tick out from any you don't need/use to speed up startup time. (if your not sure if it's ok to remove the tick from something google it or post a list and ask here)
other option is you have got some spyware infecting your computer (your anti virus will not normally deal with spyware) download adaware (link below) and run a full scan with it to check and remove any spyware.

Also if you have only just installed Mcafee then that will probably make a noticeable difference in startup time, anti virus software normally does, it's just something you have to live with.
