MM Links Solutions January 2009 [Week 4]

Well this fourth-week launch in the reign of Queen Meg was another perfect exercise in IT from a self-proclaimed novice. Any future winner who's feeling apprehensive about setting the links should take note ~you will not be left to your own devices (even if you want to be!).

For this penultimate week, Queen Meg chose the theme Family Pets with link words:

BOARD Walk
BROOM Stick
COLLAR Bone
Nose DIVE

Yet another clever collection of links ~ with thoughts of The Drifters, Witches, Plaster of Paris ( Strix) and Kay's score after the first week! I thought that these would take some finding ~ and I wasn't wrong!

Early attempts were from abendigo (welcome back) and cliffyg (who managed to enter a same prediction for both MM and KM link games ~ clever).

However, it was Dinkypuzzled who claimed the Harry Potter Prize for BROOMSTICK. He was quickly followed by Christiana with NOSE DIVE for TWO POINTS. This second hit was repeated by jan1956 at 09.03 and so she also qualifies for the same Two Points!

There then elapsed over one and a half hours of play without any of these first hits being repeated nor new hits being discovered, until Entrant #24 arrived at 10.36 with COLLAR BONE. You may well guess that this super-linker was once again wickedtongue ~ the bane of all setters! How does he do it virtually every week?

With only one link word left to detect, I began to despair. Mr Ont-ice, ChisHewat, SHAZZA, patchett & twix123 each scored single points among those remainig of the 40 entrants. But late on Saturday, fred1941 drifted in singing �Under the BROAD WALK� for the last of the bonus points. For this remarkable insight, I am delighted to nominate fred1941 as
HOT SHOT OF THE WEEK!

Thanks Miss Meg and Crofter and well done to the other point scorers. Obviously the haggis and whisky helped, but no chance of catching Dinkypuzzled.
