no forward drive in auto gearbox

i was driving my automatic ford scorpio when all of a sudden i lost all forward drive gears,but my reverse is ok

Maybe you need to check your gearbox oil.

have already checked fluid level, and cables, etc

I'm no expert by any means, but it could be the differential. Take it to a mechanic to get it checked.
