cats hate double sided sticky tape - also try putting one of those plastic mats over the area - he may just move on and choose a different place to claw though. Give in and invite him on the bed!

bed he wants not bothered about that .this happens in middle of night so everyones woke up!
my cat does that too, and he chews cardboard boxes, he is really weird, my son got annoyed yesterday because he chewed his leather pencil case.

wonder if i should go to the butcher and get him a bone
Our cat gets confined to the downstairs at night to stop her annoying everbody - is that an option with your house layout?
how about trying one of the feliway sprays, I was quite skeptical about them, but also desperate as my cat was peeing all around the house, including in my daughter's cot! I got the plug-in and now after a week he's stopped. It says its for cats who scratch too, it's quite pricey but it does work.
My dogs hate the smell of bitter bite the stuff you use to stop them chewing, dont know if it would work with a cat, but may be worth a try.
spookily enough our cat does that too we tend to throw a toilet roll at her and that stops her ! then she runs under the bed or around the coffee table twice and then behind the telly until either better half or myself grab her and chuck her out !! so it could be worse !!!!

Do you mean at the door to get in if it's shut or despite the door being open to get attention?

Have you got a scratching post? MIght give him somewhere better to scratch, stick some catnip on it to give him the idea.

They don't like the smell of citrus so you could put something citrussy where you don't want him to scratch.

Mine sleeps on (or lately in) my bed and, though he doesn't do it very often will bat my head with his paws or attack my feet to get me up if he wants something.

buy claw clippers from your local pet shop or vet or take the cat to the vet for them to cut the claws i know it won't stop it scatching but maybe it's claws need cut, a scratch post to might help
