High Blood Pressure Medication

My 5 year old son is being treated for secondary hypertension, although the doctors have yet to find the cause. He is taking Enalapril and another beta-blocker drug (specifically for a tumour they thought he had, but hasn't). He has also had Amlodopine. He is suffering from terrible tummy pains and, in his words, a stinging heart. Has anyone any experience of these drugs and any side effects? He has been given another drug to treat excess acid and heartburn but it is having no effect.

Hi Squad, you are right about my son having a suspected Pheo. He had an MIBG Scan at GOS last week and they didn't find a tumour (good, but frustrating as we are no nearer finding a cause for the high blood pressure). We are now waiting for an appointment for an angiograph on his kidney's. It is terrible seeing him suffer because he is so little. Have seen Consultant at local hospital today and she advises keeping him dosed up with paracetamol as stronger pain killers will interact with other medication he is on. You are right about NHS Direct - standard response, call your GP or go to A&E.

I remember..phae's are VERY rare in children and I suppose that they are looking now for a renal cause, the only one that comes to mind is a renal artery stenosis. Keep me informed as I am interested in his case.
