My boyfriend has been away since the start of January, he is due back in April. Do you think it will take a while to get used to being round each other again or like he's never been away?

We have a very strong relationship I think and I love him to pieces, I couldn't imagine not being without him forever. We both cried when he left and it was sooo hard. I was just wondering because someone in the army said to me the first week is great and then an argument is bound to follow and in the advice pack we're given it says it may take a while to change and fall into a routine that suits both and a while before intimacy feels comfortable (should've explained that at the start!)
Its not that long really, service personnel did tours of duty like 18months and more abroad, didnt get home in between that either!!!
Your concern shows your love caj. All you can do is wait and see. he is going through a traumatic experience just now, and he will take a while to get over it. Your love will help more than anything. You are his safe refuge, he may act in strange ways, (when I first came back from Northern Ireland my wife and I were walking down the street when a car backfired, I dived over a hedge into someones front garden reaching for my gun, which of course I did not have with me, my wife justy walked on until I caught up with her feeling a bit sheepish and she never said a word...Niether did the owner of the garden, she knew where we had been.) So be prepared and give him time to adjust and all will be fine, try not to argue, if you can, his love for you will not change.

Thanks for the replies.

I know, it could have been a lot longer so we're lucky.

Thanks for the advice waterboatman, it sounds like you witnessed some terrible things while you were away. I hope you are ok now. We hardly argue anyway so I can't see it happening, I can't see it being anything but a happy reunion and him needing time to adjust. I think I needed reassurance because everyone was saying otherwise, I should know better than to listen!

By the way waterboatman, I live in Northern Ireland now, so thank you for contributing to make it a safer and better place :o)
