We asked our vet and she suggested getting a small water pistol, small enough to tuck into your hand without being obvious and whenever the cat acts up, squirt him! Don't look at him when you do it, and if you can make sure he doesn't see where the water is coming from. You need to do this everytime, obviously you won't be able to be there all the time, but it worked pretty well as a way to scare the kitty and make him move away from whoever he is terrorising ^_^
If you wear a thick glove while he's angry and let him bite away until his heart's content, then when he realises it doesn't hurt you he might stop doing it.
Our 4 -year-old cat is really unusual in that he bites in a soft playful way like he's tasting you without hurting and scratches without his claws extended.
I wouldn't worry crazy-cute, our cats have always had what we call their mad half hour. I did read somewhere that this is usual but I can't find the article. Sorry! Boots our present cat, he is really laid-back (a friend calls him The Indolent Cat) and then suddenly he's all teeth, paws and claws - but he's only like it with me, my husband and the dog. BTW Boots is 2, too.
