Itchy Nipples

This is really embarrassing. Just lately I have noticed that my nipples get really itchy on a regular basis.As a result all I want to do is put my hand in my bra and have a good scratch. Which needless to say would definately raise some eyebrows! I haven't bought any new bras recently so it cant be the material or changed my washing detergent. Has anyone experienced this or have any ideas as to what could get rid of the itch ????

try some antihistamine tablets available from the chemist..they are also used for itchy skin..if that doesnt work see the doctor..but you may find they will work..

It can be hormonal, e.g. when you are pregnant or premenstrual.  I had it all the time when I went through the menopause and it drove me to distraction.  I used a cream called Diprobase which is very mild and can be used for eczma.  You can get it from the pharmacist and it is quite cheap.  Hospitals use it.  It stopped the dry flaky skin which accompanied the itch.

I have this too. I'm pregnant. Steer away from lacey bras, and try using a nipple cream.

You know those back-scratcher things, like a stick with a hooked end, well, get one of those and stuff it inside a child's doll so that the hooked scratchy end comes out of its mouth. You might need to attack + cut up the doll a bit to be able to do this.

You now have what I call a scratch-doll. I haven't patented the idea, you go ahead if you make a succesful prototype.

Now, carry the scratch-doll around with you in a rucksack or something, and when you need to itch the nipples, pull the scratch-doll out, sit down, and connect doll mouth with nipple in a scratching fashion. But do it as if you are breastfeeding. Breastfeeding is something which is becoming properly acceptable in public, I doubt one person would tell you to put your breasts away. Anyway, once you've used your scratch-doll check that no-one is looking and bung it back in the rucksack. If you get caught doing this it might look as if you are being mean to a baby.

I had the same problem some years ago, I felt really embarassed going to the doctors with it, glad there are other people out there who have suffered with this as at the time I thought I've never heard of anyone having this problem before. I wasn't pregnant at the time and the doctor prescribed called something called FUCIDIN H CREAM.

I'm sure it's an antibiotic cream, and can only be prescribed by your doctor, It worked for me.

Just a quick message to FP, can Diprobase be used on the face, as I have really itchy skin on mine, I have  sensitive skin on my face and get itchy dry patches.......thanks.

Liverpool Loo.  Yes I use Diprobase on my face.  It is very, very mild.  It can also be used for washing.  Staff in hospitals apparently use it for hand washing.  It forms a protective barrier.  I get mine on repeat prescription in huge dispensers.  You can get it in quite a small tube, so I should try it first.   It's not on the shelves in the chemists but the pharmacy section will have it.  I couldn't be without it.

Fucidin H is another cream that I use quite a lot.  It is an antibiotic/antihistamine I believe!

Thanks FP, I'll give it a try, I have used E45 when I get these patches of dry skin, but it doesn't seem to help.

I'll be at the Chemist first thing in the morining. Is your skin so sensitive that you can't even use Dove soap, mine is. My sister recommended this stuff off QVC, I paid loads of money for it, but it just made me break out in a really bad rash on my face. Thanks FP, for replying.

My skin reacts to all sorts of different things, but I can use Dove bars.    I can't use any Olay products and Johnsons baby lotion really stings.  Also I cannot use anything containing Aloe Vera as it makes my skin go bright red, but it is meant to be calming!  You can actually wash your face with Diprobase.  Just use it like you would soap and rinse off.   xxx
