I am changing my current account from Abbey to Bank of Ireland just because BI is nearer to my home. How long does it take for them to do this as the guy in the Bank of Ireland literally asked me would I contact some of the direct debits myself and ask them to start paying into Bank of Ireland. I refused as I was led to believe they would do everything easy peasy. So far I am waiting a month

You'd have been much better off moving the DDs yourself - more reliable and under your control.

You probably need to allow at least another month.

The Abbey are not renowned for responding to requests quickly or reliably or even at all. That's another delaying factor.

only I'd worry more about BOI being there in 6 months...
